Four and Twenty Blackbirds (Pie)

I finally ventured into Gowanus to try Four and Twenty Blackbirds Pie Shop. It was so worth the three train transfers and two avenue walk in 100 degree heat. I had the Balsamic Strawberry Pie, which was delightful.

Before ordering I awkwardly asked the pie man if it was a savory pie. He assured me that it was the exact opposite and that balsamic is used to make the strawberries pop. He was right. All I tasted was sweet, sweet strawberries. I also enjoyed a mint iced tea with my pie. The only downside to this place is that it's so awesome that everyone wants to hang out there, leaving little room to sit. Pies to go tastes just as good.

I brought my newly acquired Google Glass with me, thinking I would document my pie tasting #throughglass. However, I was too embarrassed to wear it. I put it on outside of the pie shop and took some horribly framed photos of the outside of the shop, gave up in the heat and came home to take the one above shot of my pie in its box. Next time Google Glass, next time.

MoMa Rain Room

The MoMa Rain Room is a lot like what it sounds like, it’s a room full of rain. However, unlike a normal room full of rain, as you walk through this room, you don't get wet. Some how they’ve rigged all these sensors so that the rain knows where you are standing and won’t rain on you.

The only downside to The Rain Room is the wait. The first time I tried to see this exhibit, the estimated wait time for general admission was 6 hours. Holy moly! Luckily, season pass holders can wait in a priority line which opens an hour before general admission starts.(I am not a season pass holder, but my dear boyfriend just so happens to be friends with someone who is.)  Even waiting in the priority line took about two hours, but it was worth it.

Be sure to visit with a friend; half of the fun once is taking pictures in front of the giant spotlight. Those things that look like lasers in the photos above are actually the rain. Neat right?  The exhibit closes July 28th, so go see it now please.

Color Run 2013

It's true; The Color Run is the happiest 5k. The best part about the color run, is that it's totally ok to walk. In fact, there are places to stop and take your photo along the race course. No other 5k does that. After you finish, you get to dance, eat popsicles and throw color in the air. It's great. If you run, I highly suggest you wear sunglasses to keep the lovely color out of your eyes.

Happy Belated Birthday America

We celebrated the 4th of July with eagle tattoos and veggie kabobs while wearing our stars and stripes. Only had to get up at 5 a.m. to reserve the ultimate Prospect Park BBQ camp site complete with restroom access and all-day shade. Thank goodness I was not the one to rise at dawn and set up camp.
