Bliss

The beach is beautiful because it never makes you feel lazy for doing absolutely nothing all day long.

I love colors.

New craft supplies are my favorite, especially when I can use them for wedding planning.

San Francisco Sun

 

All my friends keep moving to San Francisco. Now I understand why.

1. It's always sunny, but never hot.
2. There are dogs everywhere.
3. There are more donut shops than cupcake shops.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is full of delicious treats. The egg tarts are a must-try snack. They taste like mini quiches with a hint of sugar. But the very best meal I had was a series of toasts topped with condensed milk, butter and peanut butter. No matter what you do, don't leave the city without trying the "Hong Kong french toast," which is essentially a donut shaped like a piece of toast that is drenched in syrup. YUM!

 

Hong Kong is also home to the world's largest, bronze, sitting Buddha. I took a little day trip to visit him, and it was very worth it. You can take the subway to the base of the mountain where you can catch a ride in a glass-bottom cable car to visit the Buddha.  Visiting the statue feels more like going to a theme park rather than a tranquil journey, but it's still fun nonetheless. (There is a Starbucks at the top of the mountain if you get thirsty.)

 

If you're looking for a low-budget adventure, try visiting Goldfish Street and the pet market.  Here you can browse thousands of colorful fish and even see some super cute kittens.

It's freezing. Let's go to Cape Cod!

It was cold in New York, and then we decided to go somewhere even colder for a long weekend. Despite the high of 12 degrees, Cape Cod is gorgeous in the winter.  On Martha's Vineyard there is a community of summer homes that look like ginger bread houses and an ice cream shop every 500 yards. Unfortunately the ice cream shops are not open in the winter.

I had the pleasure of seeing L.A. for a day in January. It was 75 and sunny. In January. I now understand why people move to L.A.

Oregon

There are a million wonderful things about Oregon. Scenic views and donuts are only two.

Snow & Sugar Cookies

My Grandma makes frosted sugar cookies in every shape for every holiday. Alas, she is getting too old to bake hundreds of cookies for her grandchildren multiple times a year, so I decided to try to bake my own. Of course, I cheated on the dough and used a sugar cookie mix from Trader Joe's. All went well except for making the mistake of using cake frosting for the men's black hats.  It never dried. Whoopsies.

When friends visit.

This is a majestic eagle statue in Fort Greene Park.  One of the best parts about having visitors (aside from seeing them of course) is that they motivate you to visit your own city. Brooklyn is full of eagle statutes. Go find them.

Glitter Leaves DIY

This glitter leaf DIY project has been making the rounds on Pinterest, and it was just too sparkly not to give it a try. This tutorial uses fake leaves from the Dollar Tree, but that just didn’t feel right to my roommate and me, so we made our own version using real leaves.

How to make glitter leaves:

Step 1: Gather leaves. Try to get leaves that aren’t too crispy or too fresh. A leaf that has just fallen to the ground works best.

Step 2: Microwave your leaves. The problem with using real leaves instead of fake ones, is that as leaves dry up they also curl. To prevent this, we dried our leaves out in the microwave. To do so, you’ll need a flat, microwave-safe surface that you can place on top of your leaves when you microwave them so they come out flat. Before you microwave your leaf, wrap it in a paper towel, then place the flat heavy object on top of it and cook the leaf in 30 second intervals until it feels dry.

Step 3: Coat the leaves in Mod Podge.

Step 4: Pour glitter over the leaf.

Step 5: Shake off excess glitter, and let your creation dry.

Step 6: Punch holes in your leaves, and hang them for display.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Peach Custard Pie

As usual, my dessert didn't turn out as beautiful as the peach custard pie pictured in the recipe.  But thankfully, it still tasted delicious. I did have to cook the pie much longer than the recipe said but I think my oven cooks funny.

Paelo Lemon Bars

I tested out this recipe for paleo-friendly lemon bars. The recipe calls for nine total eggs. NINE! Needless to say with that many eggs on the line, I was bound to get a little shell in mix. Mmm crunchy. Minus the egg shell, these bars were tasty and surprisingly filling.

Jane’s Carousel

Looking for something to do on a sunny afternoon? Take stroll over to Jane’s Carousel at Brooklyn Bridge Park. It’s only $2 per person to ride the nostalgic carousel and totally worth it.  Tip: The ponies on the outside of the carousel don’t move up and down, choose an inside horse for the optimum ride.

Smorgasburg

Smorgasburg is bringing all it’s yummy eats to Brooklyn Bridge Park for the summer. Catch it Sundays 11 am – 6pm until November 24. You can eat anything you ever wanted! My favorites are Dough (the best donuts ever) and Bombay Sandwich Company (Vegetarian Indian street food).

Women Who Brunch

Monica Lo and I had the pleasure of helping @WomenWhoBrunch get kicked off. The group meets once a month and aims to help connect and inspire women over mimosa brunches.

While chatting about future technologies with the ladies, I learned about an amazing BBC show, Black Mirror. Since brunch I’ve been bingeing on this show, which focuses on the dark side of future technologies. The future is scary guys.
